Waiting & Watching

A few years ago I discovered blumex parrot tulips and I felt a deep urge to paint them.  After much research I found a source for blumex tulips and ordered a dozen bulbs, planting them in the fall of 2015.  The excitement of watching the first leaves break through the soil staid with me as I checked the progress of growth daily.  Finally in the spring of 2016 the tulip buds burst open revealing the beautiful flowers of the rococo parrot tulip.  As a colorist and it was the rainbow of colors in the blumex petals that drew me to them and inspired me to paint.  The rococo tulips are beautiful and similar to the blumex, but are mostly reds and yellow.  Needless to say my “tulip series” got put on hold and has been mulling around in the back of my mind since then.  In the summer of 2017,  I ordered blumex tulips from another bulb company and planted them in the fall.  With the return of the sun and longer days, winter turns to spring and the tulips have begun to push up out of the ground.
